Viswaprakash Central School, a budding educational institution in the capital city(Trivandrum) ,Kerala, known world wide as "GODS OWN COUNTRY" for its lush green lands and scenic beauty,is conducting there first science exhibition.The school  irrespective of its brief history has conquered great heights both in academic and artistic levels.As a student of this wonderful school I feel honored to report on my groups contribution to the Science and Math exhibition which is to be conducted on 21-1-2012.We are presenting 'The Rubens Tube",which is a classic physics experiment that gives us a stunning representation of sound waves...by the name A Thousand Suns...  
RUBEN'S TUBE


Rubens' tube, invented  by Heinrich Rubens is also known as the standing wave flame tube, or simply flame tube,is a classic physics experiment demonstrating a standing wave.It shows the relationship between sound waves and sound pressure.
It gives us a stunning representation of sound waves

Heinrich Rubens

 Heinrich Rubens was a German physicists born in 1865.he allegedly worked with better remembered physicists such as Max Planck at the University of Berlin on some of the ground work for quantum physicists
he is best known for his flame tube, which was demonstrated in 1905.
This original Rubens' Tube was a four meter section of pipe with 200 holes spaced evenly along its length 
MAKING
A length of pipe is perforated along the top
The pipe is sealed at both ends
One seal is attached to a small speaker
The other to a supply of a flammable gas
The pipe is filled with the gas
And the gas leaking from the perforations are lit
WORKING PRINCIPLE
When a tone is played through the speaker, the sound wave enters the tube and the confined space creates reflections and interference which combine to create a standing wave. the standing wave affects the air pressure inside the tube which affects the amount of gas coming out of each perforation, which affects the size of each individual flame.
